Who are we? We are the Southport, Birkdale and District Branch of the RSPCA. We care temporarily for needy animals while we find new homes for them - which we do at the rate of about 100 a month.
What do we do? We take in needy animals for which we have room. The majority are, of course, cats and dogs. We can also accommodate a small number of rabbits, birds and other small animals. All of our animals have been rescued. We are not licensed to take in stray dogs. If you find one, please call the Dog Warden or take it to the nearest police station. |

How do we operate? Each animal that comes into our Shelter is checked by a veterinary surgeon, is microchipped, wormed, vaccinated and treated for flees. Continuing veterinary care is given as required. Each animal receives a proper diet, is groomed at least once a week and is given regular exercise. New homes for animals are vetted for suitability by a member of our Home-Check Team before they are rehomed. We then check afterwards to see how they have settled into their new home. There is no veterinary surgeon in attendance at the Shelter. |

How is our shelter financed? We are a Branch of the RSPCA but we are an autonomous Registered Charity (number 232258). We raise all of our running costs locally. It costs nearly £4,000 a week to maintain our shelter. We do not receive any government grants or lottery funds, so fundraising is very important to us. |
